Have you heard of the “We the Students” scholarship contest hosted by the Bill of Rights Institute?
The annual essay contest awards a Boy Scout a $2,500 scholarship, along with $500 for the winning Scout’s troop. (Just think what that money could do for your summer high-adventure!) There is also a component that gives the winner of the BSA scholarship a chance to secure a spot in the Institute’s Summer Program in Washington D.C.
“Utah has been historically under-represented in submissions for the scholarship,” says Jeff Horne, Director of Student Programs. “As a Utah native, member of the Church and Eagle Scout, I see the value in this opportunity. It aligns with both the values of an Eagle Scout and the Church.”
The Bill of Rights Institute; located in Arlington, Virginia; promotes the values of civic virtue, agency, the importance of civic participation to a free and democratic society, and the idea of God-given liberties as outlined in the Bill of Rights.
“Our essay contest is created to help Scouts throughout the nation work through their understanding of these principles,” explains Horne.
Interested Scouts should apply quickly. Submissions are due by February 7th, 2016.
