Did you know that during general conference weekend Scout executives are invited to Salt Lake City to learn more about the LDS Church? For the past several years during April and October, many non-LDS executives have accepted the invitation from the LDS-BSA Relationships office to come and see what the LDS Church is about. Tours of Temple Square, Welfare Square, the Bishop’s Storehouse and the Provo MTC are offered during the weekend.
In addition, participants attend one session of general conference and the priesthood session. Throughout the weekend events, they meet and mingle with members of the Young Men and Primary general presidencies and boards.
“It is our hope that these good Scouters will understand more about the Church and its members, and in turn will facilitate greater Scouting relationships between our two organizations,” commented Mark Francis, LDS-BSA Relationships director.
Many participants have never been in Salt Lake City before, and appreciate the opportunity to get a closer look at how the Church functions. In addition, they often report that they feel a wonderful spirit of peace during their tours.
To apply for the October 2014 Scouting General Conference events, non-LDS Scout executives and key volunteers may email ldsbsa@scouting.org.
