I ‘m From the CFC (083). Is there a prefered hotel/motel for the weekend (and price)?
Harry – we haven’t made any arrangements for a hotel discount, as we couldn’t guarantee a specific number of rooms. However, there are several reasonable hotels located within minutes of the venue. 1) Hampton Inn Salt Lake City/Sandy, 2) Hyatt House Salt Lake City/Sandy, 3) Holiday Inn Express & Suites Sandy – South Salt Lake City, 4) Hilton Garden Inn Salt Lake City/Sandy.
Question: I’m a DE from Grand Junction, and I don’t think I’ll be able to make the conference, but I do have a question: we lost about half of our membership when the church parted ways with BSA and we’re trying to figure out how to get past the Bishop “barricade” for the wards 🙂 and get the word to the ward members that Scouting is going strong and they’re welcome to join us.
For the record, I’m also LDS.
Some of the Bishop’s just don’t care, some don’t like scouting, and all are very busy and really don’t want to be bothered.
Any ideas, or was this going to be a discussion topic during the conference?
Thank you
Gail:
Thanks for the comment – you definitely have a tricky situation there. Using traditional Latter-day Saint communication paths hasn’t proven successful for many Districts/Councils. However, we’ve seen success with some of these methods: (1) Building your own contacts/relationships with members of the Church that have continued in Scouting – and by extension – their circle of friends to get the word out. Also, your local Council may still have a database of previous Latter-day Saint Scouters that can be tapped into. This worked for the San Diego Imperial Council as well as the Circle Ten Council. Over time, word gets out when our Scout units have great programs to offer. Even in Utah, we’ve seen a “new” generation of Scouters that were never in Church-sponsored units, join Scouting. They see Scouting for what it is – a way to build up our youth and prepare them for bright futures. Particularly when Scouting complements the Church’s new youth program.
Will the conference be available via Zoom, Youtube or other media
Richard – we were unable to make streaming arrangements with the event facility. If this event proves successful, we will look to hold it in other parts of the country. We will attempt to share the presentations at a later date, for those that were unable to travel.
Richard:
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to make streaming arrangements with the venue for this event. However, we will share materials from the Conference on the Vanguard website for each session. If the event is as successful as we believe it will be, we will look for other locations in the future as well.
When will the slides/talks we posted to the website?
John – We hope you found the Conference to be a great experience. The slides have been posted. You can find the link at the top of the Conference Event Page or use the following: https://vanguardscouting.org/2023-vanguard-vision-conference/
