2022 VANGUARD VISION CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

by | Aug 1, 2022

From July 2 to 9th, the Vanguard Vision Conference for Latter-day Saint Scouters was held at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Building on the tradition of both the 2019 Vision Conference as well as numerous Priesthood Leadership Conferences at Philmont in the past, this year’s edition was a return to in-person events at one of Scouting’s best locations.

The Vision Conference is a family affair. Many of the participants brought their families to Philmont and enjoyed daily programs for spouses and kids of all ages. Participants not only enjoyed time in training sessions, but spent time building memories with their families.

During the week, many of the attendees were able to complete the requirements for Vanguard religious awards. Several adult Scouters were the very first recipients of the newly renamed Vanguard Duty to God Award (see more award details HERE). They received their new awards at a special Court of Honor, where the awards were presented by Dan Ownby (BSA National Chairman) and Lyle Knight (Vanguard Scouting Chairman of the Board).

It was a fantastic week of fun and learning. Life-long friendships were created. We bonded as a team through activities like the amazing COPE Course – with a view of the famous Tooth of Time in the background. Cheering each other on – helping some to overcome a fear of heights – was a magical experience.

Overall, the time spent with other Latter-day Saint Scouters was priceless. The faculty prepared wonderful content (all of which can be accessed HERE). We were treated to visits from the BSA National Commissioner (Scott Sorrels) and BSA National Chairman (Dan Ownby).

If you didn’t have a chance to join us this year – stay tuned for more Vanguard Vision events in the future!
